Tidbits

Driving to the CSA farm on Friday, Sis noticed there was lots of snow on the ground, snow we didn't have at our house. "It's beautiful," she kept repeating. But then, noticing the complete lack of people outside, she commented, "Mom, why aren't people enjoying this wonderful snow?"

Bud wanted me to draw a penguin. I suggested I do the gumdrop-shaped outline and he fill in the details. Being letter-obsessed, he talked himself through it, "That's a 'v' for the nose. And 'w' for feet."

The kids reported that they had been talking about families at school and the husbands of the teachers came into the conversation. "Mom," Sis said amazed, "there's a Mr. Mrs. Teacher!"

My super-observant kids have not yet noticed that under the tree where they have been playing all morning, all week, are two wrapped presents from our friends in Philadelphia. I hadn't wanted Mama to put them there, testing my ability to keep the kids from unwrapping them early, which seemed like unnecessary, extra work for me. I'm shocked that they haven't seen them. Almost disappointed, oddly.
