Birthday Permutations

We were going into the city to the "dinosaur museum" to see those plus the origami tree, and then Mama and I got sick and realized maybe that would be too much.

Then it snowed. And we thought about going to Sturbridge Village, which is beautiful under snow. But then it was 19F this morning and we realized it wouldn't be fun if it were that cold tomorrow.

So now I think we'll do a stay-at-home family day for my birthday. I see it like this:

4:30 a.m. Kids wake up and, excited about my birthday, run in to wish me a great day. We try to laugh and then send them back to bed.

6:45 a.m. It's officially morning and I get to open the presents (which I'm not supposed to know about) hiding under their beds (which I'm not supposed to know about) from Toys R Us (the store I'm not supposed to know about). Of course, they told me all of it in the first hour.

7:36 a.m. Breakfast is served. Yep, they've let me in bed while they go make breakfast, probably marmalade toast and tea. Perfect. More is not necessary.

7:45 a.m. We settle into bed snuggling to watch some Christmas tv.

9:01 a.m. We head to the store to get supplies for cake and a pinata. I get to choose what kind of pinata it is. And I think the cake will be chocolate. Maybe Bittman's new recipe. Or maybe a box mix!

10:15 a.m. After picking up a latte, we come home to bake a cake and fill a pinata.

11:02 a.m. Cake for snack and pinata candy too!

12:15 p.m. Lunch out. Rolls in olive oil. Salad. Pizza. Dessert just so they can sing to me (yes, I like that). Yum.

1:30 p.m. a short rest time with more Christmas tv, probably new Imagination Movers episode

2:30 p.m. Holiday decorating--we hang the solar icicle lights Mama found outside and put up our tree. My mom always made sure our tree was up by my birthday, the unofficial start of the holiday season (way back when, before it started at Halloween!)

4:00 p.m. Special Christmas snack--hot chocolate and more birthday cake!

4:35 p.m. Computer games? More tv? Playtime? Whatever.

6:00 p.m. leftover pizza dinner

7:00 p.m. bedtime for kiddos

7:30 p.m. birthday with Mama

10:00 p.m. bedtime for mommies

A pretty great day, even if it's not what we had thought it would be.
