The kids were so taken with weaving on my rigid heddle loom (meaning you can only create pattern using different colored yarn because there are no individual shafts to manipulate separately) that we've decided to complete it together. They enjoy passing the long shuttle back and forth and especially enjoy beating the yarn into place. So, we're making placemats on the multicolored warp, hopefully in time for the holidays. I like that they are interested--it'll be the second major craft I've been able to teach them, after baking. Crochet and knitting, quilting and cross-stitching, or Mama's woodworking and origami (she has managed to do a lot of drawing with them), will have to wait until they are a bit older.

Warp Speed: Placemats

I did something like this when I was 6 or 7, I made an egg cosy and with luck have it still. Your kid could do that and then they would never have to eat cold boiled egg. If you wish I will send you a pic and construction details. From an egg cosy you could move on to a small hat then a tea pot cosy. Good luck
