It was a gorgeous weekend and we finished both Saturday and Sunday by playing outside in the yard. We raked leaves into great big piles perfect for jumping into and throwing. We went for long tricycle rides. Sis baked cakes in the sandbox; Bud invented his own baseball-with-soccer ball game with Mama. We built four more faerie houses in our village and decided to host a fairy house party for our friends. And we made pinecone birdfeeders.
Believe it or not, I don't think I'd ever made a peanut butter pinecone birdfeeder. But they're easy enough and I really got into it, making several after the children were long gone to other activities. I couldn't figure out how to tie the yarn on the tip of the pinecone well enough, so I tied it under the flaps (what are those things called?) near the thicker base and it stayed well. Then we covered the pinecones in peanut butter, cross-contaminating our jar which is why I made so many feeders. The kids' favorite part was the shake-and-bake seed baggie (just a big zipper bag I'd filled with seed), which I thought would be less messy but hadn't taken into account that the kids would shake without actually closing the bag! Soon enough, the pine tree in our backyard was fully decorated with pinecone feeders. Though, my guess is that the squirrels will have carried them all off by this morning!
