Frontyardigans: Snow Fort

"This is crazy snow," Sis noted as she stomped across the crackling surface of the ice-encrusted snow in her new baby pink boots.

Indeed. With about a half-inch glaze on the surface and a litte layer of powdery soft snow underneath, this was not the snow the kiddos are used to. When they walked on it, it would fracture in all directions creating shards of ice. Can't use that for snowballs, snowmen, or snow angels. But the crunching sound was a game in itself, as we marched across the front yard listening to our footsteps.

Then we realized you could stack the ice panels and fill in the layers with snow. Ice forts! "What's gonna work? Teamwork!" Soon, two semi-circular structures emerged from the white wasteland of our front yard, as Bud and Sis cracked ice and dragged the panels to me to stack and Mama shoveled more snow and ice towards us. I'd love to say we stayed outside in the 20F+ weather but we didn't last long enough to play in the forts we built. But the forts are still there, morphing into real solid walls in the sun. And since it's not cold enough to truly melt anything, we have lots of other days that we can enjoy the forts.
