Our Tribe's Music

I liked Suzanne Vega's post on the NYTimes yesterday about music as cultural and ethnic identity. I listened to my parents' Broadway showtunes growing up and also loved the pop of the 1980s. Mama liked GWG (girl with guitar) music particularly the Indigo Girls. We still listen to both of those but have added world music, folk music, and opera. Our kids? When we're not listening to Laurie Berkner, Sis prefers the "Bubbly Nose" song and Bud adores sea chanteys, Bob Marley, Zydeco, "Shame on You" by the Indigo Girls, and The Sound of Music. It makes for a great iPod shuffle. And I guess it means we're in the Heinz 57 musical tribe.
