White Friday

"Mama, there is something white in front of the oven."

You never want to hear that from your four year olds first thing in the morning. But this was worse: "Mommy, Mama wants you to come down to the kitchen NOW!"

The dishwasher had bubbled over, filling the floor with suds that had seeped, on our slanted floor, over to and under the oven. No wonder the cats never came to bed last night! They had slowly watched the kitchen fill with bubbles! We think they even added the water in their water dish to the fun, completely emptying it.

The floor is cleaner than it has ever been, particularly under the oven. Though, that Pollyanna-ish statement elides the immediate tension of cleaning it up and figuring out what went wrong. Mama managed the first by turning off the power, moving the oven, and mopping it all up. I discovered the second: I had accidently bought dish soap instead of dishwasher soap yesterday.

Wanna know the irony? The dishes didn't even get clean!

To add insult to injury, after dropping off the kids, while I was running to get dishwashing soap, I got a call from our house alarm company that a burglar alarm had been tripped. So, I headed home to meet the cops, who found nothing suspicious or unusual. I'm going to blame it on the cats, high on suds, who must have been up to something mischevious, again, and bumped the window in the process!
