Weird Science
It's been science time over here at the Hungry house, er, lab this week, ever since the kiddos did magnet experiments at school last week. And so, we've popped popcorn to explore the five senses, melted ice in a skillet to boiling to watch it go from solid to liquid to gas, and played with magnets in water, beans, flour, and snow. Tomorrow is oil-and-water day. And we'll do the seed-in-the-cup and caterpillar-to-butterfly activities later in the spring. But that about taps out my ideas for science experiments--it never was my favorite subject (it might be time to watch "Sid the Science Kid" again)--so I need to go find some simple "happy hands at home" ideas, using regular household or easy-to-acquire items. So, Gentle Reader, what are your favorite at-home science experiments?

Water goes from liquid to vapour NOT to gas. The technical difference is that a gas is above the critical temperature or no amount of pressure will turn it into a liquid. Yes I know they are under 5 but please try to get it right from day one. Carbon dioxide goes from solid (roughly -44C)to vapour in one step, that is called sublimation. There are other somewhat technical details, put the name Amagat into Google for a better and fuller explanation.
