It started last night, around bedtime, when Mama mentioned that we really should have a flag system to warn the kids if we were on the edge. See, the kids have yet to pay any attention to our moods so that they push buttons when perhaps older and wiser kids would stay well away (it might also, of course, come in handy for moms who have been separated all day and don't know the situation when they reunite at dinner!). And so Mama laughed and said there should be a red flag or yellow to hang outside our bedroom door, and we got to talking about the Homeland Security Threat Level color code system. And how it was extra dangerous in our house because there would always be two mommmies with different levels. Maybe we're the oft-mentioned "double trouble." There was lots of laughter! And so, I posted it.
Except this morning, I added a new level:
Catastrophic
There is certain risk of a complete explosion because Mommy is experiencing all of the Severe conditions below, plus she has run out of milk for her breakfast cereal and morning cup of tea!
Talk to Uncle Banana, there is a 'card' system in Soccer which helps to keep coarse players under control. I do not follow Soccer but I believe the yellow card means 'do that again and you get a red card' while the red card means ' get off the playing field NOW and don't b888y well argue with me'. There is also the common whistle which the refereee blows to regulate play. Whatever you do, keep it simple and enforce it. To warn the homecoming partner you could hang out a 'union Jack' upside down, the marine signal for 'I am in distress'.
