890 Places You Should . . .

. . . learn about before you die. The UNESCO World Heritage List grew by 13 more sites, bringing the total to 890 naturally and culturally significant places. I suggest learning about them instead of visiting them, mainly because tourism is not always good for fragile sites. I haven't heard of most of them (much to my discredit), but was surprised to see that I'd visited 5 of the 8 sites in Tunisia, for instance (some of you might not know that I spent a summer on an archaeological dig in Carthage as part of college some 20 years ago. "Indiana J" they called me. But I realized quickly that spending 7 hours a day with my head below my knees digging in dirt in 110F weather wasn't my thing. Even if I did help uncover a Roman bathhouse). I'll have to ask Mama which, if any, of Thailand's sites she's been to. Or even right here in the U.S. I think I could spend a lot of time exploring that list, with its pictures, info, and links.
