Advent Activities: Deck the Deck

Our first Advent activity for this year was "make paper decorations for doors and windows." Perfect for the rainy, blustery, wintry day we had yesterday. Last year we painted trees, wreaths, and Santa Claus directly on the glass (but that is cold to clean up with water in January!). This year, we cut gingerbread people and houses out of poster board and brown paper bags. We're very big into gingerbread these days, eagerly anticipating the creation of lots of graham cracker gingerbread houses.

But our paper gingerbread creations took an unexpected turn: they became Jedi. Yep, everything must have a Star Wars component these days, which is both amusing and tiresome. I mean, I like the movie and encouraged the enthusiasm, but I was unprepared for the pervasiveness of it. But motherhood has encouraged (enforced!) my letting go of expectations and so there are Jedi gingerbread people and a green Yoda hanging on our doors and windows. It's festive in its way. And they loved it.

And that's what it's all about.
