Pietro Martini after Johann Heinrich Ramberg, The Exhibition of the Royal Academy, 1787, c. 1787, British Museum
My little artists have turned curator on me. Today during dinner, I had an idea to assign them each a door in our kitchen--one to the basement, one to the bathroom--for their artwork, which has overflowed on the fridge, magnetic wall, and kitchen cabinets. We chose locations with "eeny-meeny-miny-mo" (which they LOVE), with Bud getting the coveted basement spot and Sis acquiring the more visible bathroom door. They immediately abandonned food and started gathering stray works of art from other places, thrilled to be able to tape up their works by themselves (Sis prefers tape rolls on the back while Bud just likes one big, vertical, linear piece at the top).
And wouldn't you know it, they are both Academicians straight from London's Royal Academy or, with a nod to their French predecessors, the Academie des beaux-arts (can't find my accent marks in Blogger and can't recall when or if an adjective is ever capitalized, which is why, by the way, my expertise is in British not French art). They hung, beginning on the line, floor to ceiling, edge to edge (there being no frames). They even created works of art on the spot, which were subsequently "skyed."
It made my little academic art heart go pitter pat.
