We have one poster-board sized light blue felt board which we'd been using to make random pictures with felt shapes we have. And at some point Bud and Mama had an inspiration: felt boards as backdrops for figurines, of which we have, literally, hundreds--knights, farm animals, ocean animals, big cats, forest animals, dinosaurs, spacecraft, elves, Confederate and Union soldiers, etc etc etc. Bud had played with the idea when he drew a castle on a piece of poster board, cut a gate out, and taped the castle-cum-door onto the piano bench so that his knights could go in and out. But he wanted something more permanent and flexible. And Sis wanted something too.
So on Friday after our celebratory lunch, we headed to the arts and crafts store to purchase more felt--blue, dark blue, brown, green--colors for the ocean, the galaxy, dinosaur world, and forests. Mama has made a medieval castle, a Japanese castle, a big red barn, about a dozen little knight figurines, a duck pond, and now a feasting table complete with food. And as she sits and cuts, the kiddos pepper her with more suggestions. We're going to have a whole world made out of felt! (Her scissor skills are quite remarkable and outshine mine.)
And they're all having a wonderful time.
