1,440

12 hours a day.
Everyday.
For almost 4 months.
The equivalent of 36 40-hour work weeks.
That's January through September.
It's been a long summer.

Jungle Dreams, Bronx Zoo, swim lessons, playdates, painting t-shirts, "Yo Gabba Gabba," Norwalk Aquarium, grilled cheese, fairy houses, Central Park Zoo, freeze tag, Laurie Berkner songs, homemade window clings, Pequot Museum, homemade ice cream, birthday parties, their birthday party, the cabin on the mountain, Gommie, submarine, their first movie, library, New York Aquarium, CSA farm, railroad museum, emergency room visit, Scottish festival, "Imagination Movers," frontyard picnics, "Dinosaur Train."

And on good days, it's been great.
And on rough days, it's been brutal.
For now, it seems like all the good days were in the beginning and that the rough days are congregating here at the end.
But then my memory can deceive me and I exaggerate.

I'm bored.
They're bored.
We want school to start.
That will make it better.

And, yes, I know I'm relying on the myth of Tomorrow to fix things. I guess there's a little bit of Scarlett O'Hara in me, even if I liked Melanie much better.

  1. Be honest with yourself. You would not be without them for anything. I can tell you it is very nice when they reach middle age and can really help you. This evening my younger son repaired my motor mower. In 40 years time you will be my age and your son may find himself repairing your motor mower/freezer/hoover/kitchen mixxer. Enjoy thinking about it. Go on SMILE.
