Double Header

Buddy is obsessed with baseball.

He wakes up--too darned early, I might add--asking to play. He recently won a black inflatable bat at a festival and loves for mommies to play pitcher to his batter. For awhile, he'd run the bases--in place!--but now he retrieves the ball himself, and throws it back to the pitcher. He actually hits the ball once in awhile, and we all cheer, "homerun!" We've now gotten him a little kiddo T-ball set but that's not baseball to him because there is no pitching. We've tried to explain that it's good practice for baseball but he won't hear of it. And asks us to pitch some more.

Sis is staying well out of it. But has a bat herself to keep things even. And safe.

Buddy insists on wearing his Yankees shirt (#2 for Jeter--I got to pick the player) and cap, but only when he is batting. He changes to eat or leave the house. It's very cute.

He also now has two books about baseball, one about Curious George's trip to a game and the other his first Yankee primer. I've even drawn a picture of a stadium with all the players on the field and fans in the seats (on the scoreboard, the Yankees have beaten the Red Sox!).

We've tried explaining how a game works but you end up sounding so stupid. Even at the stadium, I was talking about running around in circles and "scoring points," thinking that would make sense to him, and Mama, who understands baseball better laughed at, and corrected, me.

He even watched a game on tv yesterday for a bit, hugging his bat the whole time.

Until it was time for him to bat again.
