We went to our friend Miss M's "roots music" concert yesterday and had a wonderful time tapping our feet, snapping our fingers (the kids have been practicing this!), and even cutting up the rug while listening to their lyrical voices, mandolin, banjo, guitars, and harmonica with old friends from church (hi again, Miss D!). We had heard Miss M and her husband Mr. C perform at church any number of times but never two full sets. We bought the CD so we can bring them home with us. And of course, I loved the "Cornbread and Butter Beans" song (by the wonderfully named Carolina Chocolate Drops):
"Cornbread and butter beans and you across the table
making love and eating beans as long as I am able!"
Inspired, I've got some butter beans on the stove right now . . . .
