A Forkful

I don't enjoy cautionary documentaries like An Inconvenient Truth or Food, Inc., usually avoiding them like the plague even if I agree with and support their findings.

But tonight I'm making an exception and am watching Forks over Knives about Drs. T. Colin Campbell and Caldwell B. Esselstyn, The China Study, plant-based diets, medicine, and cancer and heart disease rates.  It's a rather dull exploration of the science with patient case studies and interviews with the doctors.  But it is absolutely fascinating.  And persuasive!  I highly recommend it . . . and I understand a cookbook will be coming out soon!

  1. Quite convincing, eh? We watched it over the December holidays. I didn't know about the cookbook...

  2. I have Forks over Knives and Food inc. in my "to see" queue. Although I have to admit I'm a little afraid of seeing them. I'm already scared to death of the food we eat, not sure I need to know more for my sanity's sake!! I saw the cookbook on WFK, didn't know about it till then. I'll probably get it.

  3. A friend some 30 years ago married a vegan/vegetarian, charming young woman but a little eccentric, an IT wizard. Now said friend at age 65 has only 6% kidney function and he awaits dialysis/transplant. The suggestion is he transferred from meat to no-meat too quickly, you should perhaps investigate although in the end one can only go by statistics and hope you are on the right section. I was told 30 years ago that I took insufficient exercise and 'statistically' I would be at risk of a stroke. So I took up wind surfing and became at risk of drowning. And for Shelley....One has to live and hope you don't see your children die.
