We've started our Easter festivities, with the unboxing of our Easter decorations and supplies this morning. Sis loves to pull out the dozen or so stuffed bunnies with which to decorate the house. And there's more than enough baskets for everyone. We used two of the indestructible plastic ones to go to an egg hunt organized by our school's PTA (though, why a public school organization is hosting an activity based on a Christian holiday--when they avoid all mention of the others--is beyond me; still, because our new church doesn't do a big egg hunt, we wanted to go.) While we were there, my LDS friend mentioned "Resurrection Eggs" with which she and her youngsters study their nightly Bible verses geared towards Easter. I had never heard of them but a quick Google tells me they are quite the thing in certain circles, with a goody in each egg tied to a part of the Biblical story (you can make your own.) Huh. Kinda like Advent calendars, I guess. As I explained to the mom when she asked if we celebrated, we do more of a celebration of spring and the bunny, even if we'd gone into the Passion a lot yesterday at the Cloisters.
We're also making our plans for the rest of our celebrations--possible Easter menu and any new additions; experimenting with natural dyes as well as the commercial Paas ones; making Easter Bunny houses with gingerbread kits; and all of our activities with Gommie and Pop, who plan to be here before Good Friday. More as it happens . . . .
