Rain Delay

Like Wimbledon's Men's Final, we had been experiencing a frustrating "rain delay" on the potty-training front.

Then a friend taught me this song on the phone today:

Sprinkle, tinkle, little one.
Going potty is such fun.
Wipe and flush and wash your hands.
Don’t forget to pull up your pants.
Sprinkle, tinkle, little one.
Going potty is such fun!

Sprinkle, tinkle, little dear.
Going potty is nothing to fear.
Sit down carefully, you won’t fall in.
When you’re done, you and Mommy will grin.
Sprinkle, tinkle, little dear.
Going potty is nothing to fear.

Just hearing me talking about the potty with my friend, whose potty-trained child sang the first verse of the song to me, seems to have done the trick.

Both kids asked to use the potty. And succeeded!

Let the game . . . continue!

Once Upon Our Potties

Knowing that I couldn't be lazy about it anymore, we have started potty training in earnest, heaven help us all.

We have charts on the downstairs bathroom door, stickers for attempts and successes, and a reward scheduled for the end of the week if there are enough stickers (and probably even if there aren't). There are books on potties and how everyone poops, and the DVDs Once Upon a Potty. Anyone else notice that the kids in that video are a lot younger than kids being trained now? No punishments, no embarrassment, lots of cheering and praise and dancing.

Buddy and Sis have each tried--and succeeded--on the potty when asked; it's never self-initiated. We go three times a day right now, to get used to it: wake-up, lunch, and bathtime. Next week, every hour or so. When we spend some outdoor time, we'll be diaper-free (either in panties or not). I'm told that is really the clincher. I'm hoping to be pretty much trained--during the day, anyway--by the end of the summer. And regardless of where we are, we're wearing pull-ups for the wedding.

Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.
Sit, wait, wipe, flush, diaper, wash hands, sticker.

Times two.

Is it really easier than diapers??

Yet?

We all remember the question, "is she walking yet?"

Then "talking yet?"

Now, "potty-trained yet?"

We're not potty-trained. Someday, DD goes in the potty. But usually only once. And never more than a day or so in a row. She'll even outright say she wants to pee in her diapers.

Of course, several of our little (girl) friends are potty-trained now--I should note outright that DS isn't even considering it, nor are any of our little (boy) friends. But I'd be happy if only 1/2 of us were potty-trained. I know better than to force the issue and make it something we have to argue over.

But I am so ready. And I am ready for her to be ready.

But we're not.

Yet.
