Summer Fun 2016: The First Week

We're off to a pretty fun start to summer, with Harry Potter world.  It's going to be hard to match that energy and enthusiasm for the rest of our break.

But we still had fun.

1. Attend friends' Friday Night Dance Party:  we went last Friday, taking a homemade strawberry-blueberry pie with us.  It was gone in minutes!  The kids played with several children, mainly in the (pretty cold) swimming pool, while the grownups chatted.  I know this group through "old" church and really like spending time with them.  We'll try to go every Friday.
2. Inspirational Art Rock Drop:  we've done this at the book club meeting at the beach (our first), the gifted & talented class summer party at the park, and several times at the Pacific Resort in Orlando.  I now carry sharpies wherever I go!  
3. Attend town festival/volunteer at historic house:  this happened early, before school was out.
4. Birthday trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando
5. Make ice cream:  Bud and I are making Raspberry Chocolate Chunk today.  Just finished making the custard, which is chilling in the fridge.
6. Birthday party for kids:  Sis's slumber party.
7. See Finding Dory:  Mama and Bud went while Sis had her party.  They haven't said a thing about it.  We're hoping to go this weekend.

Not bad for the first week!

One thing that wasn't on the original list--"B" movie night!  We introduced the kids to Sharknado last night and had fun howling at the wooden dialogue, stiff acting, impossible scenarios, and cheap special effects.  Bud thought it was a little bloody but ended up "dying" on the floor, pretending to lose an arm and a leg while yelling that "red jello" blood was shooting up everywhere (copying the first scene from Zootopia), with Sis as the floppy shark.  I laughed about our cat Mo being a "Mo-nado" and made up a song to the "Transformers" theme ("Mo-nado, danger and surprise/Mo-nado, felines eat your eyes!")  I think you had to be there.

4. Meet friends at ice rink
5. Beach trip in city
6. Look for sea glass at beaches
7. Putt-putt golf
8. Create Minecraft server
9. Have a lemonade stand (Bud asked to do it for Autism)
10. Play in sprinkler
11. Go to zoo
12. Biking
13. Celebrate 4th of July--we've been invited to a picnic.
14. Celebrate Solstice
15. Celebrate Mama's birthday--we're doing it this coming weekend!
16. Birthday parties for kids--halfway there.
17. Decorate chalkboard for summer
18. Learn to cook weekly dinners
19. Make ice cube candles
20. Make soap
21. Learn an ASL sign a day
22. Create a Zentangle tile-a-day
23. Make friendship bread starter and share
