Odd what hospice people learn.
Did you know that one of the signs of near-death is the dehydration of the earlobes, causing them to crease and "drop" (meaning, when a person's head is on a pillow, his or her earlobes fall against the head, when otherwise they would stay in place)?
My hospice patient's earlobes have dropped and her breathing is irregular--rapid and loud then it stops for awhile.
She only awoke a few times but did smile at me.
I don't think I will see her again. For her sake, I hope not.
