An upside, Mama got off early and so won't be driving through it AND we get to celebrate her birthday tonight with our family party for which we've been preparing all day. That, and the basement is now habitable, should we need it.
I had macabrely joked that, since the basement was now complete, we wouldn't ever have another storm, but should beware of flooding or fire, something for which we are ready but not experienced. Well, I don't want to be wrong about that.
Or right, for that matter.

Take courage young woman. My mother went through WW1 and suffered mental distress because of the bombing then, she was about 8. But 1940 came and we got the 'blitz', large numbers of enemy bombers intent on killing as many people as possible, my mother was then about your age. We had the bombing night after night after night and although our house and the area nearby did not really suffer (one family sheltered under their billiard table while the rest of the house came down about them) the whole thing was a bit scary, the ground DID shake, as in earthquake. We got through but some people did have after effects for some years, PTSD it would be called now, at that time it wwas called 'nerves'. Put in some earplugs, yourself and the children, above all else do not allow your quite reasonable fear to get through to the kids, use plenty of cologne and ENJOY THE BIRTHDAY. Good luck to you all.
