Texas, O Texas

Here we come, Lone Star State!

We bought our plane tickets for a summer visit to my family in Houston.  It's been three years, specifically June 2010 (see first of several posts here) since our list visit and so we are both overdo and excited!  We'll meet my niece, Cousin Hungry (Cousin Banana?), for the first time.  We'll go to the bay, where the extended family often congregates.  We'll visit my Aunt Sis, who had broken her hip over Christmas.

And we'll eat.

I'm ashamed to admit that our first plans and discussions weren't meeting up with family--because that's a given--but plotting the meals.  Mama even said that we might have to add more days to the trip to fit it all in.

Bean and cheeses.  Chopped beef.  Sweet tea.  Chicken fried steak.  Apricot kolaches.  Chips and salsa.  Texas chocolate sheet cake.  Banana pudding.  Pop's salsa.  Pinto beans.  Gommie's fried fish and fried shrimp.  Mel's.  Taco Cabana.  Pappasito's.  Pappadeaux's.  Prasek's.  Mikeska's.  Buc-ee's.  Peli Peli.  Churrasco's.  Villa Emilia.  "Waterburger."  Vietnamese somewhere.

Even Bud thought of food--he fondly recalls buying shrimp right off a shrimp boat and then eating it at home.

It'll be a great visit!

  1. How exciting! I know I'd be over the moon going to see my family if they didn't live near by. Would you be willing to share how you guys make sweet tea?
