Though, now they want to read the next one right away! I've said next summer, to make it a family tradition, but Mama might cave over Christmas vacation . . . . at least they can't read this by themselves to know that!

The Last Night of Summer
Tonight is the last night of summer, as tomorrow is officially a school night. Even with the extra week, time flies. And so to celebrate, though we didn't draw attention to the aforementioned fact, we did a marathon reading of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, finishing the book just before bedtime. The kids were mightily impressed by all the enchantments the Hogwarts trio had to work through together to get to the stone, as well as how brave they were. (And I had to fight back tears reading about their winning points for Gryffindor because of that. What a strange place to cry!) Perhaps because it was my reading a book and not their watching a movie but they weren't at all scared by the dead unicorn part or even the Voldemort-in-Quirrell's-turban part, the two chapters of the book that almost had Mama and me deciding against reading it. But I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect end to the summer.
