Mama had a wonderful weekend at her 19th-century celestial navigation course at Mystic Seaport, where she learned to use a sextant, take readings, consult charts, and figure out her location the old-fashioned way. She also learned stories about the Morgan, the restored whaler at the seaport, and other maritime lore, like the infinity symbol on old globes that was used to correct sundial time! Yep, she spent her whole weekend doing complicated math and loved it.
The kids and I were here, having our own kind of fun, which included reading, crochet, movies, "Doctor Who," computer games, lightsaber fighting, frisbee toss, fairy houses, a trip to Target for snacks, pizza, kung fu, ice skating, making Rice Krispy candy, and a very special church outing to the installation of our new minister. Sure, it wasn't as educational or exciting as Mama's weekend, but we had a good time. The only downside was that Trunk or Treat was postponed because of the rain, but we'll go next weekend.
And so now it's the Halloween countdown, with an office party, Trunk or Treat, and the big event.
