She has settled in as if she never left, though by the kids' extremely joyous reactions you could tell it's been awhile. Or, it could've just been the knowledge that there was candy in that there suitcase. And indeed as soon as we got home, they tore into her stuff like jackals on the prowl. Nothing was safe. Not the Whoopers, both chocolate and strawberry, the Milk Duds, the Pez candy "depressors" (in Mac Truck and Fairy), with extra Pez, including chocolate, and three Hershey bars. Unbelievably, there is apparently even more candy in the suitcase that they didn't find, including Skittles and M&Ms and more Pez "depressors." They must have just been too distracted by the loot they did find. Gommie is a one woman Willy Wonka candy factory, which is pretty much what they'd been telling everyone who asked about their grandmother's visit.
Anyway, they showed her everything they possibly could, repeatedly forgetting she was staying for awhile--drums, basement, aquarium set up, fairy houses--and played several games, including "shark" and the Grumpy Ladybug board game. There was singing and performing; only dancing and tickling seemed to be missing from the usual repertoire of Gommie's first day. Oddly, they kept asking, "are you sleeping over?" and "will you be here tomorrow?" Let's hope they don't have the need to check before 6 a.m.!
Otherwise, Gommie helped with birthday preparations, including keeping me company while I finished the cakes, washing all the bits and pieces I used to decorate the cakes, and then wrapped birthday presents (though, we didn't go out shopping for the presents from Texas yet; we were all too beat).
Now, Gommie is in bed, resting up for tomorrow, which promises to be a long and crazy day. Mama and I are still up, though, prepping for that other big event: her departure for Bangkok.
